Anya Brumfield
At nine years old, Anya started playing the violin at her public elementary school. Her parents noticed her intense interest in learning her instrument and enrolled her in private lessons, youth orchestras, and competitions as she aged. These included the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, Illinois Music Educators Festivals, Montecito Music Festival in Riverside, California, Illinois Summer Youth Music camp in Champaign, IL, and Sphinx Performance Academy. Some of her previous instructors include Julie Fischer (Music Institute of Chicago), Addison Teng (MIC), Mimi Zweig, and Mrs. Phyllis Calderon. She received her bachelor's in violin performance in 2020 at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Anya is currently the orchestra director at Michelle Obama Middle School, and a violin/viola instructor at WISH. She also enjoys performing around the city of Chicago.
