D-Compressed at Gary Comer Youth Center

D-Composed’s music & meditation experience D-Compressed debuted at Greater Grand Crossing’s Gary Comer Youth Center.

While attendees rested, reflected, and had the space just to be, the string quartet performed the works of Black composers ranging from contemporary classics to pop arrangements.

Grounding and affirming participants with the soothing sounds of sound bowls and affirmations was Cherish Hicks of Beyond Wellness.

Ahead of the performance was a unique pre-event collaboration with Free Root Operation. This organization creates re-imagined wellness experiences for Black single mothers and women who live in communities affected by poverty-induced gun violence.

Featured ensemble members included Khelsey Zarraga on violin, Anya Brumfield on violin, Wilfred Farquharson on viola, and Tahirah Whittington on cello.
