D-Compressed x Gary Simmons
In collaboration with MCA Chicago's Teen Creative Agency, we presented our music & meditation experience D-Compressed to provide a space for attendees to reflect and decompress as they experience Gary Simmons's Public Enemy.
The program featured two segments; inhale and exhale. Inhale was the introspective and reflective music, and exhale provided the release.
The music of Black composers spoke to themes such as Black liberation, empowerment, and self-love with a mix of contemporary and pop arrangements from composers such as Daniel Bernard Roumain, Solange, and Nina Simone.
Cherish Hicks of Beyond set the intention for the afternoon and created a sound bath using sound bowls between the chapters.
Providing this space for healing & reflection through music was Caitlin Edwards on violin, Khelsey Zarraga on violin, Wilfred Farquharson on viola, and Malik Johnson on cello.
